Youth Fishing Clinics engage future anglers at Suncoast Boat Show

SARASOTA, Fla. (April 4, 2017) – The 35th Annual Suncoast Boat Show, set to take place at Marina Jack in downtown Sarasota from April 21 to 23, announced that it will host kids’ fishing clinics for the first time this year.

Hosted by Captain Don Dingman, an expert angler, Hook the Future will take place on Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23. The clinics are free with admission and take place at noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Children will learn everything they need to be successful at catching fish, including how to fish the water column, lure selection, casting, and more.

“Kids always leave with big smiles and confidence, as well as a lot of great prizes,” Dingman said.

All children at each clinic will receive a free rod and reel combo while supplies last. There is also a free kids-only raffle at the end of each clinic with chances to win fishing gear from Salt Life, Eagle Claw, Tsunami, Ande, C&H Lures, and more.

Hook The Future Kids’ Fishing Clinics revolve around fishing but are also about more than landing the next big catch. They are also about empowering children. Dingman lost his 22-year old son, Brian, in 2004. This inspired him to start Hook the Future as a non-profit organization to show other parents how important it is to spend quality time with their children.

“One of the big myths about taking kids fishing is that you need to have a lot of action and catch a lot of fish,” Dingman said. “As parents, we sometimes turn a fun day on the water into an Olympic event, but really, all you have to do to have a great day with your kids is to enjoy their company!”

Hook The Future’s mission is to engage children in fishing through education, foster responsible anglers and teach them how to live a fit and healthy lifestyle, all while being good stewards of the environment.

Hook the Future hosts kids’ fishing clinics throughout the southeastern United States, encouraging families to spend quality time together, and family fishing events where anglers enjoy the outdoors and the sport of fishing. Both programs instill confidence in a new generation, teach a few tips and tricks to catch a few fish, and create special memories.

In addition to the kids’ fishing clinics, the Suncoast Boat Show will showcase an outstanding selection of boats ranging from motor yachts and fishing boats to cruisers, runabouts and personal watercraft from nearly 200 exhibitors. Also on display will be a full range of marine electronics and products, as well as paddleboards, canoes, kayaks and other on-the-water toys. This year’s show will be the largest in the event’s history in terms of overall exhibit space and the number of boats and exhibitors on display.
